The best of the best in Atlantic Canada did battle in the biggest week of racing in Canada, Old Home Week, and many Pictonian named horses were front and center of all the celebrations. Probably one of the best two year old colts to hit the stakes circuit this year is Pictonian Souwest. The son of Western Paradise left for the front on August 18th and paced his first quarter in a sensational 27.4 (fastest quarter, at any point during a mile, paced by any two year old in the Maritimes) and he had plenty left in the tank afterwards to kick home in 29.1. The colt was untouched or challenged for an easy gate-to-wire win in 1:58.4 under the command of driver/trainer Mike Stevenson.
