Pictonian Farms
 
The best of the best in Atlantic Canada did battle in the biggest week of racing in Canada, Old Home Week, and many Pictonian named horses were front and center of all the celebrations. 

Probably one of the best two year old colts to hit the stakes circuit this year is Pictonian Souwest. The son of Western Paradise left for the front on August 18th and paced his first quarter in a sensational 27.4 (fastest quarter, at any point during a mile, paced by any two year old in the Maritimes) and he had plenty left in the tank afterwards to kick home in 29.1. The colt was untouched or challenged for an easy gate-to-wire win in 1:58.4 under the command of driver/trainer Mike Stevenson. 

The full brother to Maritime champion Southview Spirit is owned by Daniel Ross of Belfast, PEI. 
Also during Old Home Week....
  • Tobins Future (sired by Western Paradise) was second in an Atlantic Sires Stake 'B' division pacing his mile in 2:02.3 for trainer/driver Henry Smallwood
  • Ryan Campbell of Cape Breton piloted Maidens First Fily to victory in an Atlantic Sires Stake for two year old pacing fillies, giving her a new lifetime mark of 2:03.2
  • Pictonian Pasadena was a 5 length winner in Summerside thanks to her easy 1:59.1 score on August 27th
  • Tobins Paradise won a leg of the Erwin Andrews Memorial pace for open mares with a strong in-foal performance of 1:59.2 on August 27th
  • T M Top Gun, sired by Western Paradise, cruised to a sweet second place victory in the $6,700 Bob Dewar stake for trainer/driver Darren Crowe of Salmon River, Nova Scotia
  • The five year old mare Western Queen gave herself a new lifetime mark of 1:59.2 complimentary of a tough racing luck. She was driven by Ryan El
